What are doctors' fees?

Doctors' fees are for the two certificates that need to be signed before a cremation can go ahead.  The certificates confirm the cause of death.  The cost is currently £82.

Why aren't the doctors' fees included?

Most funeral plan providers choose not to include cover for the doctors' fees, because they aren't always needed, e.g. if the death was sudden or unexplained and is referred to the coroner.

If the certificates are needed and the doctors' fees are not included in the plan, then these will need to be paid to the funeral provider by your representative or from your estate at the time of the funeral.

Doctors’ fees do not apply in Scotland.
