QUESTION:
My late mother qualified for the Winter Fuel Allowance, but has recently passed away.
I am the Executor of her Will and would like to know if the Estate can claim for the allowance that would have been due up to the date of her death?
ANSWER:
Yes, the Estate can claim from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), providing your mother was born on or before 26 September 1955. She must also have lived in the UK for at least one day during the 'qualifying week' of 20 - 26 September.
If the Winter Fuel Allowance is usually paid into your mother's bank account and this has since been closed, contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre to advise them of the change.
